Whenever the proper amount of gas is withheld from the lungs, and carbonic acid takes its place, the quality of the blood is impaired from incompleteness of the change effected in the lungs, and the vigor of the body must in this way be lessened to say nothing of the deleterious influence of this gas upon the nervous system.
